Memory Sloths"s

Recently I was asked if I could make a Memory Bear out of a ladies clothing but in Sloth form..."sure" I said because I do love to make something differant & challenging. I found a great pattern from FunkyFriendFactory on good old Etsy...the best place to find the unusual it has to be said.

It was pretty tricky working with the fabrics as i'd been given a fairly chunky jumper (notoriously hard to sew with on a machine), some tee shirts (streeeeatchy) & a pair of flannel check pj bottoms that were really thin & had a few little holes in. This is all sorted out by iron on interfacing to stabilise the fabrics before cutting out & then lots of head scratching to be sure the placement of the pattern

pieces is good before cutting out such precious clothing from a recently passed on & much loved Mum, Wife & Granny. Apparently the lady (Jean) would get the name of these cute creatures muddled & it would come out as Slouch....i'm in agreement with Jean...a far better name don't you agree? The red outfit was to be made up a as reminder for her hubby & had one of her sayings on so that was machine embroidered separately & stitched on once stuffed. Its these personalised details that really make the Memory Bears/Sloths/Puppys that I make so special.

The pink & purple version was for Jeans Grandaughter, I was so pleased at how she sewed together.....lots of tiny bits of cut wool everywhere but still a great result. My sewing machine is really a quilting specialist but can give good results in its basic lettering mode...tbh I think if its too fancy you just can't read it.

The eyes , nose & cute grins made the little darlings come alive. What sweet & endearing personalities they have already. I can also feel Jeans fun loving personality shining through. Its such an uplifting experience to work with clothes that belonged to someone recently lost, I really can't describe the feeling I get...sort of warm & fuzzy I guess.

Did you spot my little dog Archie aka Archie The Sewing Dog doing his stringent quality checks??? He is in on everything that I do, always curious.....a wonderful help.

The strong velcro I put onto their hands & feet mean they can hang anywhere.

And they are always ready to give lovely hugs with their long arms.....who could resist a Sloth hug? They let us know that its ok to slow down a bit, Sloths have got it right huh?

If you are interested in having a Memory Sloth making from baby clothes or precious loved ones outfits then by all means contact me here to discuss. I charge £55 per Sloth plus p&p, I can send worldwide. You can email me at info@crafthillartisans.co.uk or check out my Etsy store CraftHillArtisans for other Memory items that I make.

I have heard that the recipients of these two lovelies are super in love with them already. At a later date I will show you the Memory Bear I made from Jeans wonderful Mother of The Bride outfit....it was truely an honour to work on.

Much Love Lizzy x
